Position Summary:

The Computer Science and Software Engineering department invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at any rank (assistant is minimum rank) to start in the Fall of 2019.  Candidates in all areas of Computer Science are welcome to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong software development, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or cybersecurity background. 

Responsibilities:

The primary duty will be teaching undergraduate courses in our computer science programs. Faculty are expected to participate in curriculum assessment and revisions, engage in scholarly and professional development activities that enhance teaching effectiveness and professional skills, and/or provide opportunities for students to engage in undergraduate research. In addition, faculty members advise students, participate in university/community service and outreach activities.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Candidates must have a PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a closely-related field by appointment starting date. Applicants must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and teaching excellence. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Commitment to scholarly and professional activities is also required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with strong background in cybersecurity, machine learning, data science, artificial intelligence and/or software development.

Department Information:

The Computer Science and Software Engineering Department (CSSE) at UW-Platteville is growing and transforming, with several new tenure-track faculty, increasing student enrollment and research activities, and involvement in several campus initiatives. CSSE currently has eight tenured/tenure-track faculty, two instructional academic staff and three adjuncts, serving approximately 400 students in three on-campus majors plus one collaborative online degree.   The Software Engineering program is one of two ABET-accredited SE programs in the state of Wisconsin.  Both the CS and SE programs are known for their hands-on, experiential approach to computer science and software engineering education and for their highly sought-after graduates.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville, founded in 1866, enrolls about 8,000 students in 42 baccalaureate and 6 master's programs. It possesses institutional strengths in middle level education, engineering, industrial technology, agriculture, criminal justice and business. The campus is located in Southwest Wisconsin's largest and most historic community. The region offers excellent school systems, high quality medical and hospital facilities, outstanding recreational opportunities, and vibrant businesses and industries. UW-Platteville is a cultural and educational center for the Tri-State region of Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin.
