Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is hiring a full-time, 12-month academic staff member to work as an Instructional Designer with UW-Platteville Center for Distance Learning’s programs.  This position provides instructional design and support to faculty/clients to facilitate the development of educational materials for delivery in an online environment.  This position is physically located on the UW-Platteville campus in Platteville, Wisconsin.  This position is an annual appointment beginning May 22, 2019.  The work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The annual salary is $45,000.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop interactive, engaging and effective learning experiences for online courses and programs.
  • Support all aspects of the instructional design process, including developing, implementing, evaluating, training, and technical assistance.
  • Collaborate closely with course authors to identify and develop learning outcomes, and create detailed course design plans.  Structure content and activities to meet program and course learning outcomes.
  • Adhere to and advance university standards and procedures for the creation of quality educational products.
  • Organize, develop, and maintain curriculum and course resources used for faculty and course development.
  • Identify and provide online course facilitation best practices, online course authoring support, and orientation to the LMS.
  • Provide input about overall course development strategy on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to Center for Distance Learning team members and affiliates in the development process for trainings, courses, and technical assistance in a manner that promotes the use of sound instructional design principles and meets learning outcomes and objectives.
  • Conduct research on pedagogy and technology related to online teaching and learning.
  • Promote the use of research in design practices, training content, and evaluation of the effectiveness of outcomes-based learning experiences.
  • Work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders through a variety of communication methods.
  • Serve on departmental committees and project teams as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of professional work experience in higher education, teaching, and/or online learning.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment developing instructional learning materials.
  • Practical knowledge of instructional design methods and practices.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Organizational skills to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously in various development and implementation stages while meeting corresponding deadlines.
  • Experience working with a Learning Management System (LMS) (e.g., Brightspace by Desire2Learn, Canvas, Blackboard, etc.).

 

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Design or Educational Technology, or related field.  Master’s degree plus certification in Instructional Design or Online Instruction may be considered.
  • Thorough understanding of the pedagogical principles of instructional systems theory, creative application of existing and emerging educational technologies, and an in-depth understanding of instructional design issues related to teaching and learning.
  • Significant knowledge and experience developing and implementing outcomes-based training content utilizing adult learning, instructional design, technology-mediated learning and learning theories.
  • Experience designing materials for compliance under the Americans with Disabilities Act and other accessibility considerations, such as synchronous and asynchronous sessions.
  • Knowledge of universal design concepts.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of creativity and quality.
  • Experience with educational media development, digitized audio and/or video technologies.
  • Experience with course development software.
  • Experience with HTML5.
