Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking a Career and Professional Development Specialist (CPDS) to join our Career and Professional Development Office team. We are looking for a student focused professional who wants to help students achieve their professional goals by assisting students market their skills and experiences to employers, graduate/professional schools or other placement opportunities. The CPDS should be comfortable speaking with individuals as well as presenting to groups of various sizes. They must also enjoy problem solving and be open to changing goals and missions. The CPDS does attend evening events, presentations and other departmental events where necessary such as career fairs, prospective student events, presentations etc. Position will also involve some travel opportunities to professional conferences. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position. The salary for this position will be $42,167.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct student career search appointments
    • Individual and group appointments (resume reviews, cover letter reviews, mock interviews, job search assistance, career exploration and salary negotiations)
  • Conduct classroom, residence hall and student organization presentations during and after normal business hours
  • Coordinate employer on-campus interviews
    • Coordinate and schedule all employer on-campus interview requests
  • Serve as administrator for Handshake platform (campus system for employers to post positions, events, interviews, etc.)
  • Serve as office representative at prospective student recruitment events by staffing office table at service fairs and conducting information presentations to guests
  • Career closet co-coordination

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
  • Experience with event planning
  • Proficient in PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • Ability to work with a team as well as complete tasks individually
  • Demonstrated outstanding verbal and written communication
  • Ability to conduct presentations to groups of various sizes
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Flexibility with the ability to adapt to changes
  • Experience in providing training to others
  • Interest and willingness to learn new skills and information
  • Commitment to providing strong service to a diverse campus population
  • Ability to work some nights/evenings during the semester

  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • Experience working with job seekers

The Career and Professional Development Office (CPDO) provides career advising and planning services to students and alumni at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.  We do this through one on one appointments, group appointments, employer engagement events, career fairs, on-campus interviews and other events geared to help students market their skills and experiences to employers in the job market.  Students seek our assistance with all aspects of the career planning process from career/major search to job application materials and interview assistance.  Helping students succeed at meeting their professional goals is our number 1 mission.
