Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking applicants for the position of Data Modeler.  This is a a one-year, full-time project position with the potential for permanent ongoing status. This position will assist with modernizing UW-Platteville’s Business Intelligence infrastructure, currently moving to cloud-based ETL and Data Warehouse software.

We are seeking a candidate who demonstrates expertise and leadership in data modeling, data consulting, and translating business and functional requirements into logical and physical data models that follow best practices.

This position provides technical consulting support for the analysis, definition, modeling and management of data for automated systems. This position will promote getting the right data in the hands of the right people efficiently, on time, on demand.

Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
  • Implement data strategies, build data flows and develop conceptual data models based on business requirements.
  • Create logical and physical data models following best practices and university standards to ensure high data quality and reduced redundancy.
  • Optimize, update and maintain logical and physical data models to support new and existing projects.
  • Develop best practices for standard naming conventions to ensure consistency of data models.
  • Perform reverse engineering of physical data models from databases and SQL scripts.
  • Validate data models and physical databases for variances and discrepancies.
  • Analyze data-related system integration challenges and propose appropriate solutions.
  • Review existing software to improve efficiency and performance and recommend corrections if necessary.

 

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 3+ years’ professional experience in Data Warehousing, Data Modeling, Data Marts, ETLs, and Data Transformations
  • Experience with analysis of business data requirements
  • Experience with data quality, policies or standards
  • Experience with the design, creation, and maintenance of relational or dimensional data models
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience in Higher Education
  • Experience working with the following applications:
       - Snowflake
       - Informatica
       - IBM DataStage
       - SQL
       - Oracle Database
       - Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition
