Position Summary:

Reporting to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Baraboo/Sauk County College Dean, Associate Academic Librarian has the primary responsibility for delivering an array of library services to support the campus community, as well as the public. These services include: Maintaining the collection to support the curriculum offered, overseeing the circulation of materials, providing instruction and assistance to students and faculty/instructors, and maintaining a strong professional knowledge of library best practices. The Associate Academic Librarian is also the manager of the campus Textbook center. The Associate Academic Librarian will be expected to support the development of our library as a campus learning commons, bringing student success, faculty involvement, and technology support together in the library. This is an full-time 12-month position with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2019.

Responsibilities:

Instruction Services

 - Teach information literacy and research skills across multiple disciplines in traditional or online classrooms

 - Develop comprehensive instructional program in response to campus curricular needs

 - Participate in information literacy assessment

Reference:

 - Assist students and faculty both in person and online with individual, in-depth research needs

 - Offer higher-level citation help, referred from Learning Commons desk staff

Materials and Collections:

 - Manage interlibrary loan

 - Manage UW System borrowing

 - Participate in collection management including selection, evaluation, weeding, and final disposition of print and electronic resources

 - Promote new library resources to students, faculty, and campus staff including notification of arrival of recommended materials

Supervision and Mentoring:

 - Hire, train and mentor library staff

 - Identify professional development opportunities for library staff

Engage in Professional Development and Community Service:

 - Participate in community, campus, and/or institutional service

 - Engage actively in professional development by attending conferences, workshops, and/or coursework

Textbook Center:

 - In collaboration with UW-Platteville Textbook Center, operate the branch textbook center

 - Train and supervise library staff to manage the branch textbook center and to conduct sales of classroom, instructional, and campus materials

Outreach and Programming:

 - Develop programs and promotional materials to engage students including book discussions, displays, lectures, poetry events, finals week activities, etc.

 - Collaborate with local high school librarians and public librarians

 - Collaborate with campus and institutional committees to promote library initiatives

Other

 - Seek out opportunities to align library with campus student recruitment and retention initiatives

 - Develop opportunities to promote the library as a hub of campus and community activity

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Required Qualifications:

• An ALA accredited Master's Degree in Library and/or Information Science

• Strong organizational skills

• Excellent  communication skills

• Experience working with Alma or similar integrated library systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Powerpolnt, Excel)

• Prior customer service experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience serving in a higher education library environment

• Prior experience developing and delivering information literacy-focused curriculum
• Demonstrated knowledge of information literacy practices

• Prior supervisory and management experience

The UW-Platteville Baraboo Sauk County, T.N. Savides Library is a branch library of UW-Platteville’s Karrmann Library.
