Sports Performance Assistant Internship

Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Department of Athletics seeks applicants for a 1-year internship as Sports Performance Assistant. This is a full-time, 10-month annual appointment for one year. The annual compensation for this position will be up to $23,660, plus an additional $3,000 for professional development opportunities. 

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work in conjunction with the Director of Athletics, the head coaches of all sixteen (16) varsity intercollegiate teams and the current staff with strength and conditioning duties to develop, coordinate, and/or implement strength and conditioning programs for a highly competitive NCAA Division III Department of Athletics.

In order to provide the most meaningful and varied experience possible, the intern will also be exposed to and assume some level of responsibility in other areas of athletic administration with other duties assigned based on experience. 

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

Assist in the weight room to include training, scheduling and management of student-workers and volunteer coaches.

Assist with oversight of strength & conditioning budget to include maintenance of strength training equipment and needs.

Collaborate with Sports Medicine Staff for the rehabilitation of injuries.

Development, scheduling and supervision of strength and conditioning orientations and workouts with head coaches and the individual student-athletes of assigned teams during the traditional and non-traditional segments of each season.

Development of individualized summer workout and conditioning programs for assigned programs in conjunction with the sport coaching staff.

Upkeep and maintenance of records on the strength program of teams and specific individual workouts of each student-athlete.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution
  • A nationally recognized strength & conditioning certification
  • Ability to represent the University and Department of Athletics in a professional manner
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Strong organizational and written & oral communication skills
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including weekends and evenings

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with collegiate athletic programs
  • Strength & conditioning/sports performance familiarity
