Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is recruiting for an Industrial Studies Department Chair. This is a tenure-track leadership and faculty position. This individual will provide leadership in the department of Industrial Studies, enhancing existing programs and leading new initiatives; fostering external relationships and seeking resources; leading ATMAE accreditation efforts; managing program budget and resources; and working in coordination with the College Dean, other College leaders, and diverse offices on campus to achieve strategic priorities.

This is a tenure-track faculty position with an annual basis appointment and a start date of June 1, 2020.

Leadership &

Responsibilities:

This appointment is approximately 75% administrative and 25% teaching and advising.

  • Working with faculty and staff in the department by providing leadership, supervision and mentoring
  • Develop class schedules and teaching assignments
  • Lead strategic planning efforts in the department and align with University Strategic Plan
  • Lead ATMAE accreditation and assessment activities for Industrial Studies program
  • Lead curricular changes including program development and other academic initiatives
  • Develop new and enhance current external relationships with employers, alumni, donors and other stakeholders; seek external resources to support Industrial Studies program mission
  • Manage Industrial Studies budgets and resources
  • Provide a vision and future for the department which fosters program excellence
  • Teaching and advising (approximately 25% of appointment) in the area(s) of industrial studies and/or industrial technology
  • Lead program activities related to student and academic affairs 
  • Provide leadership for department, college and university through working with college and university leadership

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Industrial Technology, Technology Education or related field with industry, professional and/or academic experience beyond degree acquisition
  • Documentation of proven leadership ability and experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated strength in teaching

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Industrial Technology or related field with industry and/or academic related experience beyond degree acquisition
  • If Master's degree, three to five years or more of industry related professional experience
  • Record of industry and/or federally-funded, research and scholarly work

The College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture (BILSA) enrolls approximately 1,800 students in BS degree programs. Industrial Studies programs are accredited by the Association of Technology Management and Applied Engineering in Building Construction Management, Building Construction Safety Management, Manufacturing Technology Management, Occupational Safety Management and Technology Education. All Industrial Studies programs have long-standing relations with industrial partners throughout Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and beyond.

The Industrial Studies Department provides two Bachelor of Science degrees. The first degree is a Bachelor of Science in Technology Education. The second degree is a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology Management, with emphases in Building Construction Management, Building Construction Safety Management, Manufacturing Technology Management, or Occupational Safety Management. Industrial Studies is an ATMAE-accredited program with 14 faculty and instructional staff plus university staff and adjuncts, serving approximately 500 students, graduating approximately 125 per year.

The Department of Industrial Studies has 7 technical laboratories, 1 remote construction lab and 3 computer labs. By 2021 the Department expects to remodel one space into two new labs, one for electronics and controls systems and the other for robotics and automation.
