Position Summary:

UW-Platteville-Richland Center is currently recruiting for a Facilities Repair Worker. Under the general supervision of the Branch Campus Facilities Director, this position independently carries out a broad range of maintenance and repair responsibilities necessary to the normal operation of the campus. This position carries the primary responsibility for the preventative maintenance and repairing of the building HVAC and other mechanical equipment. It is also responsible for maintaining the building interiors, exteriors and grounds.  Carrying out the responsibilities of this position requires the application of a broad range of technical skills in the areas of; HVAC, plumbing, painting, carpentry, masonry, light electrical and landscaping. This position routinely interacts with building occupants and trades people; requiring excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This is a full-time, 12-month position with wage range from $16.00-$18.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications, and offers excellent benefits! 

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, inspect and perform preventative maintenance on air handling units. Change belts, oil and filters as required.
  • Monitor, inspect and perform preventative maintenance on air compressors. Change belts, oil and filters as required.
  • Monitor, inspect and perform preventative maintenance on hot water boilers, pumps and auxiliary equipment as required.
  • Monitor, inspect and perform preventative on A/C condensers. Clean coils seasonally.
  • Repair or replace interior and exterior building structures and fixtures such as doors, siding, roofing, gutters, flooring, walls, ceilings, etc. Paint as needed.
  • Monitor, repair, and install a variety of lighting devices. Replace lamps, fluorescent tubes and incandescent bulbs in all areas to include; offices, halls, and exterior building and yard lights. Carry out minor repairs to office electrical service (e.g. outlets, switches, fixtures, etc.).
  • Inspect, analyze, repair, and/or install restroom fixtures, water outlets, water heaters, circulation and sump pumps, emergency eye wash stations and showers.
  • Mow and trim lawn areas and pick up litter. Apply fertilizer, seed, and pest control chemicals as appropriate.
  • Maintain sidewalks and parking lot surfaces, removing snow and ice. Make minor masonry repairs to sidewalks, driveways and parking lot surfaces.
  • Operate skid loader, commercial mowers, snow thrower and brooms.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations; including necessary training and drills.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Knowledge of commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Working knowledge of the preparation, priming and painting of metal and wood structures.
  • Working knowledge of basic carpentry and woodworking skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic plumbing and pipe-fitting skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic masonry and concrete skills.
  • Skill in operation of a personal computer, including use of Microsoft Office and computerized database records systems.
  • Ability to learn lock out/tag out procedures.
  • Ability to work under unpleasant (confined, dirty spaces and extreme hot and cold) conditions and perform heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to climb, bend, crawl, and stoop.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to push or pull heavy objects (i.e. full 55 gallon barrel on barrel cart, pallets with various items (salt, filters, etc.) on pallet jack.)
  • Ability to work hours in excess of the normal work shift, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
