Position Summary:

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites applications for a part-time instructor of surveying to begin in August, 2020. The instructor position is considered a 60% position, and as such is eligible for Wisconsin Retirement System benefits, including health care. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work part-time with a local surveying team to review field work, conduct calculations, and review documents. This opportunity will be managed independently of the university.

Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility will be to teach the “Elements of Surveying” class lecture and labs in a student-centered learning environment. This person will also assist other students in the Civil and Environmental Engineering programs with equipment training.  Scholarly activity is not expected but will be supported to the extent possible.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Required:

  • B.S. in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • Either M.S. in related field, PLS, or a minimum of 2 years field experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong commitment to undergraduate education
  • Ability to work on teams in a collegial environment
  • Ability to adapt to, use, and teach equipment used in modern surveying

 The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department currently consists of fourteen tenured/tenure track faculty members and three instructional academic staff, and graduates approximately 105 students per year.  The department offers ABET accredited undergraduate degrees in both Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville, founded in 1866, enrolls about 8,000 students in 42 baccalaureate and 9 master's programs. It possesses institutional strengths in middle level education, engineering, industrial technology, agriculture, criminal justice and business. The campus is located in Southwest Wisconsin's largest and most historic community. The region offers excellent school systems, high quality medical and hospital facilities, outstanding recreational opportunities, and vibrant businesses and industries. UW-Platteville is a cultural and educational center for the Tri-State region of Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin.
