Position Summary:

Are you looking for a full-time temporary job in Groundskeeping? UW Platteville Baraboo-Sauk County is the place for you! We are looking for a temporary Groundskeeper to help keep our university looking spectacular by safely assisting with grounds and facility maintenance & equipment, providing snow removal, and responding to emergency repair situations. Position will be less than 1040 hours in totality and is not benefit eligible. Wage is $13-$15 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

Grounds and Facilities Maintenance

  • Install, maintain and restore lawns to meet institutional grounds keeping standards.
  • Installation, maintenance and pruning of trees and shrubbery as directed.
  • Planting, cultivation, mulching and weeding of landscape beds to meet institutional standards.
  • Safe use and maintenance of appropriate equipment to maintain lawns, landscape beds, disc golf course, etc.
  • Collect and properly dispose of leaves and trash from grounds plus items placed in trash and recycling containers.
  • Maintain grounds accessories to include picnic tables, benches, receptable containers and other items as directed.
  • Install and maintain signage as directed.
  • Assist maintenance staff with painting, carpentry and other facilities maintenance tasks as directed.
  • Assist maintenance and custodial staff to prepare rooms for classes and other events by moving furniture, arranging tables and chairs, etc.
  • Clean and clear walkways, roadways, and parking lots to ensure that they are free of litter, debris, rocks and other obstacles that may create an unsafe environment.

Provide Snow Removal and Respond to Emergency Repair Situations

  • Safely remove snow and ice from campus parking lots, sidewalks and related areas in which access is required.
  • Work with custodial staff to create safe entry into facilities.
  • Pre-treat paved surfaces to keep free of ice by applying salt, limestone chips, brine or other surface treatment materials as directed.
  • Install, maintain and remove snowplows on designated equipment as directed.
  • Inspect campus for storm damage following significant weather events and report damage status to maintenance lead or supervisor.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance

  • Safely operate campus-owned and leased equipment.
  • Provide material and equipment trucking services as directed.
  • Maintain equipment, hand tools, etc. in good working order, performing maintenance as needed.
  • Return and properly store all equipment after completing tasks and at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain inventory of grounds supplies and equipment repair parts.
  • Report necessary repairs to supervisor and schedule equipment for repairs.

Administrative

  • Complete assigned trainings in a timely manner.
  • Follow Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Maintain proper records as directed.
  • Actively abide by applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills.
  • Other duties as assigned.
