Position Summary:

The precollege advisor is responsible for advising an assigned caseload of under-represented students through the completion of the precollege program and post-secondary enrollment. This position has supervisory responsibilities for academic year and seasonal student and project staff. Administrative tasks, data collection and data follow-up are important pieces to the job; creating reports and monitoring student outcomes are also required responsibilities. Candidates must be committed to intimately working to build authentic relationships with assigned caseload of students (8th-12th grade) and their families to guide them to successful completion of high school and enrollment in a post-secondary institution.

This posting is for two positions, one will serve the regional sites of Darlington, Monroe and Shullsburg, WI and the other will serve the regional sites of Baraboo, Portage and Wisconsin Dells, WI. The salary range for this position is $40,000-$50,000 and priority review of applications will begin on August 9 with an anticipated start date of early September.

Responsibilities:

  • Principle duties: Must be committed to intimately working to build authentic relationships with assigned caseload of students (8th-12th grade) and their families to guide them to successful completion of high school and enrollment in a post-secondary institution.
  • Direct Service Duties
    • Coordinate and supervise after school programming sites
    • Support school and program attendance at a designated rate or above
    • Assist student in college application process and FAFSA
    • Conduct parent/guardian meetings and advising sessions with student
    • Monitor students’ academic and precollege progress (course selections, grades, co- curriculars, ACT/SAT prep)
    • Recruit and supervise programming and outreach services which may include, teachers, undergraduate and graduate students
    • Facilitate community building and build college going culture with students
    • Infuse culturally relevant programming and outreach into services which engages local community, parents/guardians, and students
    • Act as liaison between family, program, and the school district as needed
    • Work in collaboration with other partners to assist student in career decision-making
    • Align scholarship opportunities if student enrolls at any UW-Platteville campus
  • Administrative Duties
    • Assist with planning special events such as campus visits, college tours, mentoring program trips, cultural events and parent/guardian workshops
    • Compile and submit appropriate reports and data for caseload of students
    • Assist with planning and administering residential summer programming
    • Enter all prospective Students into CRM 5. Participate in recruitment activities (special events, open houses, parent teacher conferences, campus tours, etc.) when appropriate.
  • Other Requirements
    • This job requires evenings and weekends with a flexible 40+ hours per week required
    • Additional duties as assigned
  • Be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations; including necessary training and drills - (Essential)

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Bachelor’s Degree

- At least two years’ experience serving diverse populations of students and families

- Candidates who are bilingual in Spanish and English

- Working knowledge of best practices in supporting first generation college access

- Experience planning logistics for programming, outreach and/or event programming

- Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive to area schools and events

- Ability to work independently and with self-initiative
