Position Summary:

UW Platteville invites applications for a Financial Specialist Senior. This position will act as a lead in the Cashier’s Office with; recording, distributing and reconciling tuition and fees. This includes scheduling and assigning staff, distributing daily receipts, reconciling daily receipts and change fund, processing adjustments and refunds, processing credit card transactions, generating transfer requests and processing billings and collections for other campus departments. This position exercises independent judgement to ensure compliance with State regulations and UW System policies and procedures and is responsible for initiating internal controls to ensure the integrity of fiscal transactions.

The incumbent will demonstrate accountability with work behavior that demonstrates responsible personal and professional conduct and contributes to the overall goals and objectives of the department and University of Wisconsin-Platteville. This position also requires effective relationships to be created and maintained with all campus constituents, and strong sense of personal urgency to complete tasks while adhering to University and State of WI policies and procedures.

This is a full-time, benefit eligible position with Wage range of $37,500-$45,000 ($18.03-$21.63/per hour equivalency) commensurate with qualifications and experience.


This position primarily reviews, approves, and advises on a variety of complex financial transactions. Reconciles transactions, maintains financial records, provides administrative processing support, and provides customer service for staff and customers in an assigned program area to support program financial management. Recommends controls and process improvements and troubleshoots complex financial errors. May be a lead or resource for others in the unit.

  • Act as a lead for the office staff in the recording, distributing, and reconciling of tuition and fees.
  • Process adjustments and refunds on student accounts.
  • Monitors financial transactions and fund balances and generates and reconciles complex reports and statements
  • Reviews and approves complex transactions and assigns funding codes
  • Reallocates expenses to appropriate funding strings
  • Drafts communications and reports and maintains organization of varied records to provide administrative support within the Cashier’s Office
  • Answers complex fiscal questions and provides information based on set materials and standards to various audiences
  • Reviews transaction processing internal controls and recommends policies and procedures
  • Serve as a unit liaison to leadership providing financial advice, recommendations, and financial status updates
  • May train staff on financial processes and best practices
  • Other duties and responsibilities.
    • Be an active representative of the Cashier's Office for campus activities.
    • Participate in training, implementation and testing of software upgrades.
    • Provide backup coverage for the other Financial Specialist positions and the Student Financial Services Director.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

-Associate Degree in Business Administration or similarly related financial field will be considered.

-Prior experience using software platforms such as: Excel, PeopleSoft, QuickBooks, Word Processing, and the Microsoft Office Suite

-Ability to handle multiple tasks and details efficiently with interruptions
