Position Summary:

The Division of Financial Services at UW Platteville seeks applicants for a General Ledger Specialist position. This position reports directly to the Controller and is responsible for maintaining an automated general ledger accounting system; performing miscellaneous financial duties; and maintaining financial records and files. This position exercises independent judgement to ensure compliance with State regulations and UW System policies and procedures and is responsible for initiating internal controls to ensure the integrity of fiscal transactions.

This position also primarily reviews, approves, and advises on a variety of complex financial transactions, reconciles transactions, maintains financial records, provides administrative processing support, and provides customer service for staff and customers in an assigned program area to support program financial management. This position will recommend controls and process improvements and troubleshoots complex financial errors. They may be a lead or resource for others in the unit.

This is a full-time, 12-month, benefit, and paid leave position. Minimum salary of $40,000 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews, approves, and performs general ledger maintenance for chart of accounts and funding strings and assigns funding codes in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies
  • Reallocates expenses to appropriate funding strings
  • Drafts communications and reports and maintains organization of varied records to provide administrative support within a specified work unit
  • Reviews, maintains, and processes monthly tasks related to capital asset management
  • Reviews and processes daily transactional journal entries for internal departments and provides training where needed
  • Serve as a financial liaison to departments providing general ledger system advice, recommendations, and status updates
  • May backup other financial services department staff where fit
  • Additional duties as assigned

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Associate Degree in Business Administration or similar related field experience will be considered.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and attention to detail skill sets
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work on a variety of programs packages
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
