Assistant Professor - Regional Dairy Business and Economic Development

Position Summary: 

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville School of Agriculture is seeking an Assistant Professor specializing in Dairy Business and Economic Development with a focus on regional dairy business and economic development. This is a nine-month (academic year) tenure-track position. This position will be funded by the Dairy Innovation Hub and is 70% research and outreach and 30% teaching.

The successful candidate is expected to develop an impactful research and outreach program that supports Wisconsin dairy producers, farm consultants, and dairy food processors by providing leadership and translational research that is focused on regional dairy business development, with particular interest in coordinating technical assistance, niche/value-added market development, and international trade opportunities for dairy businesses, for the growth of our farm businesses and the increased economic sustainability of our dairy farms and surrounding communities.   

This position will be expected to secure funding from competitive federal programs and industry partners relevant to their area(s) of expertise. The position carries a commitment to the three functions of resident instruction, research, and outreach/service, as well as professional and university service as appropriate to the position.

Responsibilities:

The candidate will be expected to:

  • Collaborate on developing externally-funded research focusing on regional dairy business and economic development, with a focus on putting systems in place to benefit the dairy industry.
  • Integrate research results into outreach education programs on issues identified as needs of the state and its residents.
  • Document the impacts of research, teaching, and outreach efforts and communicate these impacts to stakeholders, the general public, and professional colleagues.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the purpose, vision, and values of the Dairy Innovation Hub, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and the well-being of Wisconsin and its residents.
  • Teach as an Assistant Professor to stakeholders (e.g., students, educators, civic groups, boards, farmers) throughout the state of Wisconsin. Contribute to the department's mission through undergraduate student instruction and mentoring. Contribute research expertise to courses taught in the department and across campus.
  • Be of service to the department, college, and campus communities.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's of Science in Agricultural Business, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Education, or related field.
  • OR Ph.D. in Agricultural Business, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Education, or related field.
  • OR Master's of Business Administration.
  • Evidence of at least two years of relevant industry experience in technical services OR at least two years of research in regional dairy business and economic development and securing competitive research funding.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching at the college/university level.  As a minimum, one year of teaching experience while in a Master's or Ph.D. program.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.
  • Enthusiasm for professional engagement with students in a variety of settings.
