Financial Specialist

Position Summary:

UW-Platteville invites applications for Financial Specialist. The Financial Specialist primarily reviews, approves, and advises on a variety of advanced financial transactions. May prepare some financial transactions and reconciles transactions. This position recommends controls and process improvements, troubleshoots advanced financial errors, maintains financial records, provides administrative processing support, and provides customer service for staff and customers in an assigned program area to support program financial management. 

This position is under the general supervision of the Director of Student Financial Services and is responsible for cashiering and student accounts processing functions. This is a full-time, benefit and paid leave eligible position. Wage range for this position is $18.00 to $21.00 per hour commensurate with qualification and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Departmental Deposits: Reconcile approximately 20 department deposit slips per day with the checks, cash, and coin submitted.
  • Troubleshoot common issues such as: checks with errors, accounting string errors, cash not matching
  • Run various reports utilizing QuickBooks and MS Excel.
  • Prepare advanced reports and maintain organization of varied records to provide administrative support within a specified work unit
  • Ensure accuracy of received information, follow up with depositors and educate with proper resources to ensure efficiencies in the future.
  • Prepare bank deposit bag
  • Act as Online Banker; record ACH debits and credits
  • Reconcile the day’s deposits with the online banker register to ensure accuracy
  • Perform functions pertaining to billing, collecting and refunding student accounts
  • Perform Account research related to payment swapping, write-offs, withdrawal, tuition calc. manually, special course fees, add/drop dates, financial aid recall, third party contracts, offsets.
  • Manage the general email inbox for the Cashier Department
  • Ensure daily reconciliation of departmental receipts and student payments
  • Direct the Cashier’s Office staff in implementing procedure and process changes.
  • Audit, monitor, organize, and update fiscal records, reports, and affiliated materials
  • Create general reporting for transactions
  • Audit or process advanced transactions and assigns funding codes in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies
  • Audit or reconcile original purchase documents with payments
  • Draft communications and advanced reports and maintain organization of varied records to provide administrative support within a specified work unit
  • Answer advanced fiscal questions and provides information based on set materials and standards to various audiences • Review transaction processing internal controls and recommends policies and procedures
  • Be knowledgeable of Cash Handling and Internal Controls regulations and guide supervisors of the proper practices of cash handling to prevent mishandling of funds and safe guard the University. Maintain and update documentations and provide training to those individuals involved in this process
  • Additional duties as assigned

  • Associate's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or similarly related financial field
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and attention to details skill sets
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work on a variety of programs packages
