Director of Compliance

Position Summary:

University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking a Director of Compliance.  The Director of Compliance directs compliance policy creation, decision-making, and a compliance program, and acts as the compliance lead for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. The Director responds to auditors on internal compliance audits to ensure compliance with institutional policies and/or laws and regulations and coordinates with other compliance programs to ensure efficiency and serves as the primary point of contact for senior leadership on compliance matters for the university.

This is a 60% FTE/24 hours per week position. This role is eligible for paid leave and benefits.  Salary is commensurate with experience.
 

Compliance Responsiblities:

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive compliance program structure for the University with clear policies and procedures.
  • Provide direct oversight of and responsibility for institution-wide compliance programs.
  • Identify the legal, ethical, and regulatory obligations that govern the University and promote compliance with these obligations through effective training, documentation, and communication.
  • Assist key policy owners with the development of policies, procedures, and guidelines to manage or address compliance issues, in collaboration with faculty and staff governance bodies.
  • Communicate standards, policies, and procedures with designated stakeholders and validate awareness of applicable rules and expectations.
  • Conduct compliance reviews, upon request, in coordination with the General Counsel, Internal Audit, and other appropriate University units.
  •  Manage the Outside Activities Reports and Statement of Economic Interests for the institution.
  • Provide oversight for the Youth Program Coordinator and Risk Management Office
  • Responsible for the Office of Compliance budget.

Legal Liaison:

  • Act as legal liaison between campus and Universities of Wisconsin Office of General Counsel
  • Prepare timely responses to requests for data or documents for legal issues by the Office of General Counsel
  • Provide advice and recommendations to senior university leadership on legal, regulatory, audit and compliance related matters
  • Direct strategic planning initiatives and create unit objectives and goals to ensure compliance with established rules and regulations
  • Develop operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives
  • Serve as the unit liaison to institutional and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information and represents the interests of the unit
  • Develop and audit the unit budget and compliance reports in accordance with established rules and regulations
  • Direct the development of programs in the areas of administration, course development and management, policy development, and staff supervision

Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years' experience in a compliance related position.
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in law, finance, business or related field
  • Strong understanding of relevant laws and regulations within higher education
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Excellent analytical skills
