Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Pioneer Farm Livestock and Crop Assistant. This position assists with the care of livestock, fieldwork, lab preparation and maintenance and repair of equipment on the college farm.

UW-Platteville Pioneer Farm is part of the School of Agriculture. Pioneer Farm's mission is to provide on-farm experiences for students, to evaluate management practices, to conduct systems and applied research, and to communicate education and research to students, agencies, producers, and the public.

 

Responsibilities:

-Responsible for feed delivery, inventory, mixing and storage for all livestock at Pioneer Farm

-Maintain commodity inventory for the livestock units (dairy, beef, swine, bull test). 

-Maintenance and repair of all equipment involved in feed mixing, delivery and storage

-Assist in production of  grade A milk and care of dairy animals including milking, bedding and treating animals

-Assist in production of fields crops and operation of machinery

-Maintain Pioneer Farm grounds, lab preparation, data collection and record keeping for classes and research

-Assist with maintaining Pioneer Farm grounds and facilities,

-Occasional evening and weekend work required.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

-Two or more years’ experience working with livestock and crops

-Experience with farm machinery operation and repair

Preferred Qualifications:

-Associate or Bachelor Degree within an agriculturally related field
