Position Summary:

The Department of Criminal Justice & Social Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites applications for a Lecturer of Ethnic Studies with expertise in teaching about race/ethnicity. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated competency teaching multiple existing sociology and race/ethnicity courses. The typical teaching load is 5 courses per semester (5/5). The desired start date is August 2024.

Applicants should feel comfortable teaching courses that focus on intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and economic inequalities. Such courses in our catalog include Race, Gender, and Class in the United States, Sociology of Race & Ethnicity, Social Inequalities, The Native American Experience, Intro to Ethnic Studies, and Ethnicity, Race, & Crime.

This is a full-time, nine-month position with a starting wage of $38,000, commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:

• Teach courses in Ethnic Studies, including ETHNSTDY 1030 Race, Gender, and Class in the US and ETHNSTDY 2200 Intro to Ethnic Studies. 
• Ability to engage modern pedagogy to teach undergraduate students through a classroom settings.
• Willingness, interest, or experience in cross-disciplinary collaborations.
• Ability to effectively interact and collaborate with colleagues to complete department tasks (attend meetings, reply to emails, patriciate in department events, etc.) and goals.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Required: 

• Master's degree in Sociology, Ethnic Studies, American Studies, or related discipline.  ABD’s wishing to enhance pedagogical skills are highly encouraged to apply.
• Documented evidence of teaching intersections of race, gender, class, and sexuality.
• Strong commitment to undergraduate education in a liberal arts environment.
  
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to interact with industry, enthusiasm for professional engagement with students in and out of the classroom.
• Ability to work with colleagues in a collegial environment.

Preferred:

• Expertise in Indigenous Studies, Latinx Studies, or Asian American Studies.
