Custodian for Academic and Residential Buildings

New part-time shifts and sign-on bonus available!

Wage for these positions start at $15.00 per hour. New custodial employees may earn a sign on bonus of $500 (for full time employment) and $250 (for part time employment) after successful completion of six-month probationary period.

Multiple shift times are available. Shifts after 6:00pm are eligible for a shift differential. Occasional weekend work (with weekend differential).

Full time shift opportunities:

  • 6:00am - 2:30pm
  • 3:30pm - 12:00am (high need, eligible for night differential of additional $.45/hour after 6:00pm)
  • 5:30pm - 2:00am (eligible for night differential of additional $.45/hour after 6:00pm)

Part time shift opportunities:

  • 6:00am - 10:00am
  • 9:00am - 1:00pm
  • 10:00am - 2:00pm
  • 12:00pm - 4:00pm
  • 2:00pm - 6:00pm
  • 4:00pm - 8:00pm (eligible for night differential of additional $.45/hour after 6:00pm)

The Custodian/Custodian Lead provides custodial services in various academic and residential campus buildings. Job duties may include but are not limited to cleaning floors, windows, walls and restrooms; operating cleaning equipment; working with cleaning chemicals; assembling and moving furniture and equipment; communicating with other staff to maintain a clean and safe environment, and supervising student workers. Additional training will be provided on appropriate usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) and high-level cleaning and sanitizing procedures to comply with State of Wisconsin and Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines. No experience? That’s okay, we can train you!

Responsibilities:

Physical Requirements:

Daily:

  • Walking (flat and uneven surfaces), standing, stooping, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, squeezing (spray bottle)
  • Visual acuity to see close enough to read procedures and far enough to see areas that need to be cleaned (cobwebs near ceiling in your home)

Regular:

  • Climb ladder to reach 10’ ceiling to clean and/or change bulbs
  • Lifting/moving up to 50lbs. individually and greater amounts in a team
  • Ability to kneel and stand back up to change parts and clean custodial equipment
  • Working outside as needed during all seasons in Wisconsin 
  • Able to perform repetitive motion tasks (bending, twisting, etc.)
  • Able to use a shovel for snow removal in front of buildings
  • Steel toe boots (annual stipend provided)
  • Additional duties as assigned

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • H.S. Diploma
  • Basic knowledge of custodial duties
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without mechanical assistance
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Able to read work instructions and schedules, warning labels and instructions for equipment operation
  • Able to perform repetitive motion tasks (bending, twisting, etc.)
  • Able to use a shovel for snow removal in front of buildings
