Position Summary:

The Department of Performing & Visual Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville is looking for a dynamic full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Music/Voice Area Coordinator with an anticipated start date of August 2025. Responsibilities for this position include teaching undergraduate courses, research and scholarly activity, and university and departmental service. Candidates with experience teaching vocal pedagogy and applied voice as well as experience maintaining a voice studio are encouraged to apply. 

The starting salary for this position is $57,000, commensurate with experience. The University of Wisconsin System has a nationally top ranked retirement plan and a comprehensive benefits package. 

Responsibilities:

• Primary responsibilities include serving as the Voice Area Coordinator and managing all activities related to the voice studios, including teaching applied lessons, vocal pedagogy, vocal literature, diction, and other potential courses as needed. The Voice Area Coordinator helps coordinate juries each semester, weekly convocation, and scheduling of applied lessons.
• Additional duties will be assigned based on the candidate’s abilities and background.
  • Ability to engage modern pedagogy to teach undergraduate students through field, classroom, and laboratory settings.
  • Record of professional development, or a willingness to develop in the area, related to teaching, research, or scholarly work.
  • Willingness, interest, or experience in cross-disciplinary collaborations.
  • Ability to effectively interact and collaborate with colleagues to complete tasks and goals. 
• Other duties may be assigned by the Department Chair.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

• Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) or Doctor of Music (DM) in Vocal Performance or Vocal Pedagogy. An ABD (all but dissertation), if hired, would be contractually obligated to have earned their DMA or DM by August 1, 2026.
• Minimum one year experience teaching undergraduate courses/lessons as an instructor.
• Ability to teach undergraduate courses in Music with an emphasis in Voice.
• A strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education in a liberal arts environment and a willingness to collaborate with both students and faculty.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
