Position Summary:

We are looking for an individual to provide services that are tailored to computer needs of faculty and staff. This position will provide system administration and support related to moderately complex systems used for teaching and instruction, analytic/diagnostic services to computer users regarding computer hardware and software problems, and additional support in specialized systems and end user training as assigned. 

Applicants hired into this position can work a hybrid schedule and will be discussed during the interview process. This is a 12-month project position that may be eligible to be renewed. Starting salary is $55,000 and will commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

Responsibilities:

  • Answers calls of campus clients both in person on location or off site via phone or IT-based communication tools.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve PC, software, network and other workstation-related problems and issues.
  • Build and maintain virtual desktop and server computer environments on VMWare to facilitate academic lab needs. 
  • Install and configure the VMWare environment.
  • Install and configure Linux and Windows virtual machines used for instruction.   
  • Serves as liaison for assigned departments within the College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Science (EMS), which focuses on technology coordination, communication, and consultation for that area.
  • Provide Tier 2/3 support to specific EMS related software/hardware.
  • Communicate IT rules and regulations that faculty and staff must follow.
  • Effectively communicate verbal and written information, and in a user-friendly/non-technical manner as appropriate, with team members and customers.
  • Document all user related correspondence thoroughly.
  • Motivate themselves and their team to adhere to IT best practices and deliver outstanding customer service and satisfaction to campus clients in an agile work environment.
  • Assist in ensuring that IT Support Services performance metrics are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Identify areas for process or policy improvement.
  • Provide training, coaching, and mentoring for the Help Desk staff.
  • Participate in rotation for after-hours call-in support.
  • Serve on campus committees as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of system design, IP networking, virtual networking, authentication systems, and information security best practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware and software.
  • Ability to document in writing steps taken when building and troubleshooting compute environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • MS Office proficiency.
  • Experience using support ticketing systems.
  • Proficiency with multiple Operating Systems (OS).
