Textbook Center Manager

Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking a full-time Textbook Center Manager. This position will function as the Administrative Manager of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Textbook Center with the primary goal of distribution and collection of course textbooks, ancillary material and digital resources to all enrolled students for every instructional term. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, overseeing the daily operations of the Textbook Center, customer service, student account/information management, purchasing, accounting, inventory management, shipping, and staff management. The Textbook Center Manager reports to the Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

This is a full-time, 12-month, position with excellent benefits - medical, dental, vision, paid leave, Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) retirement benefits, and more!  Salary range of $50,000 - $55,000 per year commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Retail Operations Management
    • Oversee and provide exceptional customer service for the Textbook Center including student staff management and customer issue resolution.
    • Respond to faculty and student needs by providing information, resources, and consultations regarding textbooks and textbook acquisitions.
    • Supervise and direct daily operations of staff within a retail facility to adhere to established standards. Will exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees.
    • Manage customer accounts and revenue accounting to ensure accurate and timely processing and communication. This includes monitoring cash handling equipment and related functions.
    • Plan, implement, execute, and evaluate existing strategies and objectives for the Textbook Center and make recommendations to unit leadership for program or function enhancement.
  • Inventory Management
    • Utilize campus student information system (PASS) to complete monitor textbook usage and course enrollments, process fee waivers, provide messaging to students, and other tasks.
    • Implement and oversee workflow components for inventory management and accurate purchase and receiving of textbooks and course materials at Main and Baraboo campuses in order to maintain accurate inventory using inventory database system (PASS).
    • Select and purchase all inventory, including books, media and digital resources by conferring with publishers' representatives to locate sources to establish optimum cost, availability, delivery, and service related to the unique needs of the Textbook Center.
    • Act as a liaison between publishers/vendors and campus information technology services to ensure timely access, management, and support of digital course materials.
  • Other Essential Duties
    • Oversee the shipping and return process of textbooks and course materials to distance students including packaging and coordination of small freight items.
    • Lead the development and preparation of periodic reports and financial statements, and records progress, status, or other special reports for leadership or external agencies.
    • Contribute to the preparation of proposals for funding and/or funding continuation from outside sponsors.
    • Interpret and implement policies under Universities of Wisconsin and campus guidelines.
    • Prepare Textbook Center reports as needed for Director and external stakeholders.
    • Test various PASS (inventory management and communication) databases and liase with PASS Administrative Team.
    • Maintain an accurate website for the Textbook Center.
    • Represent Textbook Center at campus recruiting events. 

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • 3 years of experience in retail management or operations.
  • Knowledge of store operations and customer service standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and retail management software (inventory, accounts payable).
  • Ability to delegate responsibilities while maintaining organizational standards.
  • Proficiency in conflict management and problem-solving processes.
  • Strong fiscal, organizational and administrative skills.
  • Experience with accounts payable and purchasing.
